October 2016 Notice: We are not currently accepting interns for this position, but anticipate that these internships will be available again beginning in the Fall of 2017.
Legal Research and Writing Internship
Pine Tree Legal Assistance is looking for a law student, qualified paralegal or pre-law student who is interested in legal research and writing. This intern will assist our website coordinator in drafting and updating the self-help legal information posted on our website. Excellent research and writing skills are required. A candidate for this position should also be motivated to learn "Plain English" drafting techniques and some basic html. This is a good opportunity to experience work in a legal services environment and to learn some poverty law basics. You will also practice and improve your research and writing skills. Depending on the intern's level of experience and interest, the position could also include some more technical web development.
A 9-month position is available during the academic year that requires an 8-15 hour per week commitment (negotiable during exams and vacations). In some cases, this can be limited to one semester. We also offer a 3-month summer internship, requiring a 20-37.5 hour work week. We are sorry that we are not able to pay interns for their work. However, students can sometimes get credit or financial subsidies through their schools.
The Legal Research and Writing Internship is available in the Bangor office. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Jack Haycock: firstname.lastname@example.org
