The Farmworker Unit, based in Bangor, provides civil legal services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Maine and also oversees the provision of legal services to farmworkers in all the New England states. The majority of our clients are Hispanic, Native American Indian, Jamaican, or Haitian. The Unit staff consists of 2 attorneys, a paralegal, and support staff. During the Spring through Fall harvest seasons, there is opportunity for outreach to migrant labor camps throughout the region.
Specific responsibilities will include outreach to labor camps, client education, client interviews, factual investigation, negotiation on behalf of clients, representation at administrative hearings, legal research and writing, and litigation support. Spanish speaking ability is preferred but not required.
Internships with the Farmworker Unit are available in Bangor.
