Most people with low-to-moderate incomes who cannot get MaineCare can now get help to pay for health insurance. For most people, this will come in the form of instant income tax credits. (The IRS posts information here about how the tax credit works.)
So, if you do not have affordable health insurance now, this may be a good opportunity for you to get insured.

Maine's Consumers for Affordable Health Care has set up a HelpLine: 1-800-965-7476 to answer your questions. To get you started, they have also produced this short introductory video:
Then learn more at healthcare.gov. This is also where you can go to sign up for coverage on or after November 15, 2015.
A network of authorized "Health Care Navigators" has been trained to answer your questions and help you navigate the system. Go here and search by town or zip code.
Most people should apply or re-apply during the November - February enrollment period. But some people can apply for coverage any time of the year. This includes people with "major life changes" and people who qualify for MaineCare. Find out if you can apply outside of the enrollment period.
If you do not sign up, you may face tax consequences. But note that there are tax exemptions for many people with very low incomes. Read more here.
